Oasis Africa Trains Participants on PFA/SPR

Oasis Africa saw twenty four (24) Psychologists and Counsellors undergo Psychological First Aid (PFA) and Skills for Psychological Recovery (SPR) training. Dr. Gladys Mwiti, Consulting Clinical Psychologist &CEO of Oasis Africa took this team through PFA while Dr. Oscar Githua, Forensic Psychologist trained the group on SPR.

The training that took place on 4th June 2016 focused on equipping the participants with skills that they could apply in their various areas of specialization and also to the general population given the many traumatic occurrences all over the country.

Psychological First Aid is an evidence- informed modular approach to people in all stages of development in the immediate aftermath of disaster and terrorism. It is designed to reduce the initial distress caused by traumatic events and to foster short and long- term adaptive functioning and coping.

Skills for Psychological Recovery is an evidence-informed modular approach to help individuals and families in the weeks and months following disaster and trauma, after the period where Psychological First Aid (PFA) has been utilized or when more intensive intervention than PFA is needed.

These skills are a necessity especially with the rise of traumatic loss all over the country due to terror attacks, road accidents, demonstrations and riots, floods, falling building just to mention a few.

After the training, participants received Attendance Certificates that count for eight (8) hours towards Continuing Education for members of Kenya Psychological Association.

More training programs are in the pipeline. Watch this space!
